Leadership Lens with Nick Cooper #3 – Behind the Scenes at Adept: Reflecting on a Remarkable Week

Last week was one to remember at Adept—filled with achievements, inspiring moments, and exciting opportunities.

First and foremost, a huge shoutout to Luke, whose presentation at the Greater Manchester Citizens Delegates Assembly was nothing short of inspiring. Hearing him share his journey with Adept was both humbling and uplifting. Moments like these reaffirm why our People First philosophy is at the core of everything we do.

On the operations front, we successfully mobilised several new contracts, and we’re proud to announce that Adept is now the security provider at the National Football Museum, Stamford Quarter Shopping Centre, and Stretford Mall Shopping Centre. A fantastic milestone for our team, who have worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition for our clients.

And it didn’t take long for things to get exciting at the National Football Museum! On Wednesday, we hosted the Derek Chisora vs. Otto Wallin weigh-in, and on Thursday, it was the turn of Jack Catterall vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. As a big boxing fan, being part of these events so soon after starting at the venue was a real highlight!

Beyond our current successes, we’ve also had some exciting conversations about future opportunities. We met with a household name to discuss delivering their security requirements in the North—an opportunity that could lead to further growth. Additionally, discussions are underway with a football club about becoming their stewarding and security partner, which would be a brilliant addition to our portfolio.

Another exciting development—I’ve been invited to be interviewed by the Financial Times about our Living Hours accreditation. Given that Adept operates in a sector where insecure work is common, we had to make meaningful changes to meet the accreditation’s criteria. The fact that this has caught the FT’s attention is something I’m incredibly proud of. I’ll share more details once the interview is published!

Whilst writing this blog, I’ve been listening to the latest episode of our Adepting to Change Podcast, which had a slight shake-up in the hosting lineup this time. Alan and I weren’t available, so Paul Howard from No.1 Spinningfields stepped in alongside regular host Alex McMahon—and I have to say, it was a fantastic episode. I felt queasy at Paul’s nut story, laughed as he invented words (“constructual”?!), and genuinely enjoyed the conversation. But beyond the laughs, there was also a touching moment when Alex read out words from Andy Troughton in memory of Qal Shah, one of our amazing team members who sadly passed away last month. A truly moving tribute.

As we push forward into February, our focus remains the same—delivering exceptional service, building strong partnerships, and leading the way in good employment practices. Looking forward to sharing more updates in the coming weeks!
