At Adept, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive in meaningful employment. That’s why we’re proud to support World Down’s Syndrome Day on 21st March, a global awareness day that champions inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunities for people with Down’s syndrome.
This year’s theme is ‘End the Stereotypes’, and we couldn’t think of a better time to highlight the success of our WorkFit Programme, delivered in partnership with the Down’s Syndrome Association. WorkFit helps individuals with Down’s syndrome gain sustainable employment, and for us, it’s been a game-changer.
Through this initiative, we’ve already welcomed Luke, Matthew, and Joshua into the Adept team, with Zack set to join us in the coming months. Each of them brings their own strengths, personality, and dedication, showing firsthand that inclusion isn’t just the right thing to do—it makes businesses stronger.
- Luke joined us at No.1 Spinningfields in April 2024 and has become a key part of the team with his positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Matthew started at Manchester Goods Yard in October 2024 and has quickly made an impact, bringing enthusiasm and commitment every day.
- Joshua joined us just last week at Fearnes, and we’re already seeing his confidence and skills grow.
- Zack will be joining us in the coming months at Rochdale Sixth Form, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the team.
How We’re Celebrating World Down’s Syndrome Day
We’ve got plenty planned to mark the occasion, raise awareness, and bring our team together for a great cause:
☕ Coffee Morning at Alvearium – Join us on Thursday, 21st March for a brew and a slice of cake while supporting the Down’s Syndrome Association.
⚽ Table Football Tournament – Chris Holt is organising a Table football competition, so if you fancy testing your skills, get involved!
💪 Fitness Challenge in Spinningfields Square – Some of our team are taking on a fitness challenge to raise awareness and funds—come along and cheer them on!
🧦 WDSD Socks at the Adept Awards Evening – If you’re attending the Adept Annual Awards this Friday, don’t forget to bring some money if you’d like to buy a pair of official WDSD socks in support of the cause!
How You Can Get Involved
We’d love your support to make this event a success! Here’s how you can help:
🍰 Bake or donate – If you’d like to contribute a homemade or store-bought cake, biscuits, or pastries, we’d be extremely grateful! Let me know if you’d like to bring something along.
💛 Can’t make it? – If you’d still like to support, you can send in a donation, and we’ll make sure it goes towards this fantastic cause. Let me know, and I’ll arrange the details.
At Adept, our focus is on real, sustainable employment, not just short-term placements. We ensure each WorkFit employee receives the right training, mentoring, and workplace support to succeed—because they’re not just ‘filling a role’; they’re valuable, contributing members of our team.
Seeing their confidence grow, hearing positive feedback from colleagues, and watching them challenge outdated perceptions has been one of the most rewarding aspects of our journey with WorkFit. Their contributions prove that ability is not defined by a diagnosis.
As we celebrate World Down’s Syndrome Day, we encourage more businesses to step up, rethink outdated assumptions, and create real opportunities. If you’re an employer considering WorkFit, I can’t recommend it enough—it’s not just about changing someone’s life; it’s about enriching your own organisation in ways you never expected.
